NEWBORN BABIES If you are interested in a newborn baby session it is a good idea to book as soon as you can, even before the birth so I can pencil in a date. The best age to photograph babies is between 6-14 days old, for the curled up, sleepy images. After this time they take longer to settle, and realize how nice it is to stretch out! I have a large selection of blankets and fine knitted wraps, as well as headbands and baskets. Most parents prefer their babies undressed for most of the photographs, so obviously accidents will happen – but don’t worry, I am used to it! The session takes at least 2 hours, and I urge parents to take as long as they need to feed their baby & change nappies as required, so it can often take up to 4 hours. With this in mind, it is better not to book any visitors on the day of the photo shoot, just in case we do over-run.
TODDLERS & CHILDREN To achieve relaxed, natural images of your children, I take my time and play with them! If they are cheeky or over excited (which is 99% of the time) the best thing for parents to do is to step back & leave it to me. I am happy to run with them, roll on the grass, pull daft faces, anything to connect with them. This is how we can create gorgeous images which reflect your child’s personality. Allow your child to help choose an outfit, although I would suggest avoiding any character or cartoon tops. Bring a selection of clothes if in any doubt, and then we have the option of changing outfits during the session. If your child is always in jeans, let them wear jeans. They will be more relaxed and willing to cooperate if they are comfortable with their outfit. Bring favorite toys, books or comfort blankets. These can help with their confidence, and they can be useful props and help add a bit of interest and personality to some of the images.
